A record 18,838 items were collected during United Way’s 2012 ‘Undies Sundays’ drive!
Throughout the month of October the United Way of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks and Area in partnership with area churches, Altru’s Professional Nurses Committee, and Gate City Bank, collected a record 18,838 items as part of its annual ‘Undies Sundays’ drive.
Each Sunday in October, parishioners at area churches were asked to bring in packages of new underwear, socks, diapers, soap, shampoo and other personal care items. Volunteers from Altru Health System’s Professional Nurses Committee counted and sorted the items which were then distributed to 21 case workers at a dozen of United Way’s partner agencies, including local food shelves.
“We are absolutely blown away by the generosity of those in the Grand Forks community” said Pat Berger, President/CEO of the United Way of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Area. “A big thank you to area churches, local businesses, volunteers, and folks in the community who donated items.”
Nineteen area churches participated in the 2012 ‘Undies Sundays’ campaign, including:
Augustana Lutheran Church, Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, Bethany Lutheran Church, Christ the King Free Lutheran Church, Family of God Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, First Church of God, Holy Family Church, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sharon Lutheran Church, St. Mark’s ELCA, St. Mary’s Church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, University Lutheran Church, Wesley United Methodist Church, Zion Lutheran Church of Oslo, and Zion United Methodist.
